Thank you.
Our final Langdale Festival has come and gone and the cheques totalling £6222.75 have been sent to our charities – The Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs and the Great North Air Ambulance. Since bringing the festival back to Langdale in 2008, we have raised over £55,000, a great achievement for everyone involved. The final festival has been widely hailed as the best ever – great music, a terrific friendly atmosphere, good beer and, most importantly, a gathering of friends many of whom hardly knew each other 10 years ago.
We would like to thank:
· Mik for starting the festival all those years ago, supported by Anne, Little Jim and John, and working with us to bring the festival back to Langdale after a break of 8 years until ill health caused him to step down 5 years ago.
· Neil and Jane, proprietors of the ODG, for all their support, tolerance and generosity.
· All of the artists, sound men and festival crew who have taken part in the festival over the years at their own expense (no one gets paid) and have made it such a success. There are too many to name individually but a special mention for Rod Findlayson, Decca, Jim Smith and Bruce and Gill Hogg and sound engineer Craig Hughes who have played their part in almost every festival since the very start.
· The bar and hotel staff for all their hard work and for putting up with us!
· Everyone who has supported the raffles, auctions and thrown money in the buckets to enable us to benefit our charities.
· Our sponsors – Frank Josef Photography and John Shedwick for donating their work for auction and all of the breweries who have donated beer to enable us to give a little hospitality to artists.
· All of our friends who contributed to the totally unexpected farewell gifts and everyone for their good wishes.
There was a lot of great music and laughter over the final weekend and a few tears. The festival has been a very important part of our lives and we will miss it but we all love music, Langdale and the ODG and hope to see many of you there in the future.
Maureen & Dave.
A friend quoted, a festival is like a swan gliding along a placid lake but under the water everything is going like the clappers! Sums up running Langdale festival I think!...................................
Just some of the many kind comments we have received.
Best langdale ever.still on a high .trying to formulate my feelings and failing miserably.....fantastic array of singer songwriters.bands musicians put together by Dave and Maureen…..all kept running smoothly by the various compares...sound engineers and bar staff...it’s the end of an era.....the festival started way back in 91….. taken on to new heights by Dave.all this would not have been possible without Neil and his staff.......awesome
Stunning weekend in Langdale, the most amazing charity folk festival, great ale, great company and great music. Thanks Dave and Maureen for everything you've done, its been a blast.
A cracking weekend and lovely to catch up again.
A fabulous weekend with some really special moments at the final Langdale Charity Folk Festival. Stunning location, beautiful music, some amazing performances all done with love, respect and real class. Dave Reid put himself through the wringer to get it all arranged, as he has done for years, assisted by musicians and festival family who convened to create something truly magical.
However this festival goes forward in whatever form we will be there, playing, watching, laughing and hugging along with the friends we have bonded with along the way.
Thank you everyone, it's been emotional.
Just back from the Langdale Festival - the weather reverted to normal Lake District weather - but what a fabulous weekend of music with such a range and wealth of talent - too many to single out any individuals. Great to meet up with friends old and new. Dave and Maureen Reid and their team did a tremendous job in organising everything. Such a shame that it's the last one.
Thank you again to Dave Reid and Maureen Reid for a wonderful final Langdale Festival, so special.
A fantastic weekend spent at the last Langdale Charity Folk Festival. Brillant acts, wonderful surroundings and a tremendous total raised - £6222.75. Bravo folks!
Well done everyone and especially Dave Reid and Maureen a fantastic effort over the years. It's been a real privilege to be a small part of it for the last 4 years.
Just returned from the last Langdale Charity Folk Festival. It was, by any measure legendary! Old friends, new friends - you're all awesome. Pics to follow when we get chance.
The Last Langdale Festival
After a great deal of soul searching, due to ongoing health problems it is with great regret that we have made the decision that we can no longer continue to organise the Langdale Charity Folk Festival. This was not an easy decision to make and September 2017 Festival will be the final one. Since Mik (Mead) and ourselves resurrected the festival in September 2008 we will have had 19 festivals, each getting better and better and by the time we finish we will have raised nearly £50,000 for our charities! No mean feat! Thank You. We have had the most fantastic support from Jane & Neil Walmsley and the hotel staff, artists, sponsors, sound and festival crew, too many to mention by name but each and every one very much appreciated, and not least the punters who have given so generously. The last 9 years have been some of the best years of our lives and we believe that something special has been built up and everyone involved should feel very proud of what we all have achieved. The friendships that have developed between us all over the past 9 years stretch from Scotland all the way to Norway. Yes there have been ups and downs and the weather hasn’t been too kind at times! But we all pulled together and got it sorted - that’s been the strength of the Langdale Festival -the camaraderie. We don’t want to lose touch with the many friends we have made and hope we will still gather from time to time at the ODG.
Best wishes,
Maureen and Dave.

In 1990 Mik Mead and friends started the Langdale Charity Folk Festival with the aim of promoting live music and raising much needed funds for the local Mountain Rescue services. Over 25 years later the festival is still going strong! P.s. Mik's still there!
